About Bertie
Bertie Tonks FCIPD has built a two-decade-plus career in human resources, talent and culture leadership that spans multinational corporations, global consulting and dynamic cross-industry settings. He currently serves as Chief People Officer at Collinson, a global leader in loyalty and benefits programmes for some of the world's most recognised brands. In 2023 he was voted HR Magazine's Most Influential Practitioner and in 2024 was inducted into its Hall of Fame, reflecting his standing as a thought-leader and change-maker in the HR profession.
Bertie's leadership philosophy draws as much on his long-standing passion for skateboarding as it does on his professional credentials. He describes himself as "a skateboarder who just happens to do HR," a metaphor that speaks to risk-taking, resilience, continuous iteration and embracing "falls" as part of learning and growth.
At Collinson Bertie's remit involves everything from the boardroom to the frontline. He has led efforts to evolve culture and performance practices, instil purpose‐driven high performance, and integrate inclusion and human-centred design into the way work gets done. He drives transformation not through sweeping top-down edicts but via experimentation, agile operating models and deep employee experience design.
For Calling All Minds, Bertie brings a rare blend of strategic HR mastery, cultural insight and a passion for systems change. His emphasis on experimentation, human-centred workplace redesign and how organisations must adapt their people systems for the future dovetails directly with our mission of unlocking human potential through inclusive, adaptive systems.
"I'm a skateboarder who just happens to do HR — risk-taking, resilience, and embracing falls as part of learning and growth."
